HOW DO I DONATE EYEGLASSES AND WHAT DO THE LIONS ACCEPT?

The Lions accept new and used prescription or non-prescription eyeglasses, safety glasses and sunglasses. Broken or incomplete glasses are not accepted.  You can drop them off in a collection box at any of the following locations:

GoodWill of Thurmont, MedOne Pharmacy on Water Street, MountainGate Restaurant, the Thurmont Library or at the Thurmont Lions Club sandwich sales held at Bell Hill Farm, 1 ½ miles north of Thurmont on the west side of US Route 15.

CAN I VOLUNTEER AT AN EVENT WITHOUT JOINING THE CLUB?

Yes; we are always looking for volunteers to help us serve our community. Quite often, due to the joy of giving back, these volunteers become our members.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE THURMONT LIONS CLUB?

Membership in our club involves Annual Dues of $74.00 which includes International, District and Local dues. Members also pay for their meal charges whenever they eat at a meeting; however, eating dinner at the meetings is optional. Dues are billed once a year in July and meal charges are billed each month by the Dues Treasurer. If you join mid-year, the dues will be pro-rated. The first time you attend a meeting to see what we are all about, the dinner is complimentary.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JOINING THE THURMONT LIONS CLUB?

There are countless reasons, but to name a few:

  • You get to meet new people. Even if you join a club with a friend, you are always going to meet new people
  • Learning new skills. All members of a club contribute to the group
  • Helping your community

  •  Improving confidence

 WHAT DO THE LIONS DO?

The Lions raise funds to benefit local community needs as well as vision related
needs all over the world. While known for our efforts to collect eyeglasses, the lions
also provide significant assistance to local projects and those in need right here in
the Thurmont community. The national/international arm of the association
provides assistance in disasters worldwide and they fund diabetes and vision
related causes as well. Youth services and assistance are always an area of focus
both locally and globally as well.

 WHO ARE THE THURMONT LIONS?

The Thurmont Lions are a group of men and women from throughout the Thurmont
community and beyond. We are people just like you. We are your friends and
neighbors helping our community. We work hard to raise funds and do community
service work, but we always have fun doing it.
