About Us

The Thurmont Lions Club is a civic organization where community-minded men and women come together to enjoy fellowship, help those in need through service activities and fundraisers, and support worldwide service and vision-related programs. The club is located in northern Frederick County, Maryland and, as with all Lions clubs, we are a local chapter of Lions Club International (LCI) – the world’s largest service organization found in over 200 countries with a total of 1.4 million members. We proudly achieve the LCI motto “We Serve”.

The Thurmont Lions Club was chartered in October 1929. Women were invited to join the club in 1987. Today, we have a membership made up of 50% men and 50% women. We support two LEO Clubs (the LCI youth organization for middle and high school students). Our club is located in the Catoctin Mountains a mere five miles from Camp David. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at the Mountain Gate Family Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. Each meeting includes a program covering an interesting and informative topic. All are welcomed to join us.

A sampling of the ongoing activities and projects we provide to our community are:

  • Collecting used prescription eyeglasses
  • Supporting the local Food Bank
  • Providing financial assistance for residents in need including eye exams and eyeglasses
  • Holding an annual Health Fair and Blood Drive
  • Supporting our local LEO clubs
  • Providing food fundraisers during the Thurmont Community Show and Colorfest
  • Holding summer food fundraisers through Pit Sandwich Sales
  • Supporting literacy projects, and inspire youth participation in the peace poster and essay contests
